Superbowl Recipes

The Superbowl is an epic day in our house. For one, our anniversary falls on Superbowl Weekend. Which must be proof that my husband loved me if he wanted to be married on his favorite weekend of the year. (Actually, there weren’t any good teams playing that year, and we flew out Monday morning for our honeymoon so technically, he hasn’t missed the Superbowl since we’ve been married since he still watched it).

Of course, since we’ve been married we’ve always had someone over to our house to celebrate and eat. It’s the one party per year that I can actually get my husband to plan, execute and clean up afterward. And this morning when the news popped up showing healthy recipes for the Superbowl, he threw his sock at the TV and said, “Curse you!!! Bring on the fat!!!”

I don’t really tell him, but I do cut down the calories that he’s eating in his food. At least a little. But I do let him indulge too.

And if you’re looking for some great recipes this weekend, check these out, courtesy of my husband:

You’ll want to start out light. A small bowl of cereal, or a yogurt. Save those calories, but eat enough that you’ll have enough energy to pick up the wings and set up for the big party.

Fruity Granola Cup

Quinoa Fruit Salad

The pre-grame stomach warm up is essential to getting ready for the big meal and to make sure you don’t get sick from splurging. Go easy on this one. You might be hungry from that light breakfast, but save the majority of calories for the big game. You’ll need them when you cheer for your favorite team.

Make Your Own Microwaved Popcorn

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Granola Bars

Sweet Apple Bacon Salad

The big meal is the essential part of your Superbowl diet. While I often grab some wings from our favorite restaurant, I’m secretly hoping that some of these great recipes will show up at our Superbowl party this year:

Buffalo Chicken Wraps

Chicken Nuggets for the Kids

Pizza Sticks

Stuffed Gouda and Bacon Pork Chops

Superbowl Nachos

One of the biggest rules of Superbowl eating is to leave room for dessert. It’s extremely important that for dessert you remember three key ingredients: 1. Butter 2. Sugar 3. Calories. Very important key to having a successful calorie laden Superbowl party.

Applebee’s Maple Butter Blondies

Baked Doughnuts

Caramel Pecan Cheesecake

Golden Oreo Cupcakes

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
