Secret Snickers Brownies

My son could eat peanut butter and jelly everyday of his life. He actually admitted he would love it if I made him something with peanut butter in it everyday. But just the “butter” part, not the “peanut.” Are your kids like that? They’ll devour Nutella or peanut butter, but the minute you actually use the real ingredient it’s made up of, they won’t touch it?

My kids have cracked open hazelnuts and peanuts before. They love it. We even have a walnut tree that they climb to pick off all the walnuts for me. But they do not love eating the nuts.

So I try to incorporate them into anything and everything I can without them knowing. And like these Snickers brownies, I’m pretty good at it. They had no idea. 🙂

But I do usually sneak them into something much healthier.

Snickers Surprise Brownies

  • 1 stick (8 tbsp.) of butter, melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 8 fun-size Snickers bars, chilled in refrigerator
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch pan. (For cake like brownies, use an 8×8 inch pan). unwrap the Snickers bars and place in a blender. Pulse until snickers are a coarse crumble. Set aside for later use.
In a mixing bowl blend together melted butter and sugar. Stir in eggs, vanilla and water. Stir until mixed well. Add remaining dry ingredients, stirring just until blended. Fold in Snickers bars and pour batter into the greased pan. Cook for 30 minutes  (apx 25-35 for 8×8 inch pan) until top cracks slightly and center is just set.
Remove brownies from oven and allow to cool completely before cutting. serve with caramel syrup and whipping cream if desired.
