Kiwi Strawberry Sorbet

If my husband needs a fund for my breakage of appliances, than i want a budget for new cookware. Three plates and two bowls have sadly been lost by this week’s tragic events. Baby. She found out that when brother and sister aren’t looking she can snag their plates and throw them to the ground and they make this wonderful crashing noise. It is also funny because immediately following the crashing noise, baby has learned that Mom’s reaction of horror is also funny.

This strawberry sorbet like recipe was also born from one of my ‘saving sprees.” A whole bag of six organic kiwis was only $1! I had to buy it. But then, I had to figure out how to use them up.

Luckily for me I found this great recipe for making ice cream. Just assemble the few ingredients,

Dump it all into the food processor or blender and mix it for two minutes.

Place it in a freezer safe container and freeze for several hours. the result?

3-4 kiwis, peeled and cut into pieces

2 cups strawberries, tops cut off and cut into pieces

3/4-1 cup sugar (The ratio of sugar should be 1/4 cup sugar to every kiwi)

3/4 cup water

juice of 1/2 lime

1/2 tsp vanilla

In a saucepan, heat the sugar and water just to boiling. Remove mixture from heat and allow it to cool completely.

While mixture is cooling, place the kiwis, strawberries, lime juice and vanilla into the food processor. Pour the liquid mixture in and blend for two minutes.

Pour the mixture into an airtight freezer proof container and freeze for several hours until soft.

Serve garnished with nuts, or diced kiwis and strawberries.
