Bacon Cheddar Hot Dog

This recipe goes out to my son, who LOVES these Bacon Cheddar Hot Dogs. Dad introduced them to him, and now he refuses to eat a regular hot dog. What’s wrong with good old ketchup and mustard? No, now his hot dog toppings of choice have been replaced. I’m not ready to throw out the ketchup and mustard yet though.

Today, our littlest “man” introduces his favorite man food: Bacon Cheddar Hot Dogs

(Yes, of course I’ve made them healthier. But you don’t have to tell the boys!)

Bacon Cheddar Hot Dog

Yield: 1 hot dog

Serving Size: 1 hot dog

Inspired by a seven year old, these bacon cheddar hot dogs will replace ketchup and mustard covered hot dogs forever.

  • 1 nitrate free hot dog or turkey dog
  • 2% cheddar cheese, grated (we use Cabot)
  • Nitrate and preservative free bacon bits (Oscar Meyer and Frontier brands)
  • 1 whole wheat hot dog bun

  1. Heat your hot dog by grilling it on a grill, or by inserting the hot dog into the bun, then wrapping it in a paper towel and heating in a microwave for 45 seconds.
  2. Remove hot dog from grill or microwave and top with cheddar cheese and bacon bits. Allow cheese to melt before eating. (You may need to microwave the hot dogs for several seconds).
