Kids Cool Down Summer Recipes

Keeping kids from being bored in the summer time really could be considered a full time job. I’ve been on research projects the last two summers and even having to work (and last year having the house for sale, working on a large business project AND a research project) it didn’t seem as busy as this summer.

This is the first summer in a couple of years I’ve been able to be home with the kids full time. And I’ve learned several things:

  1. No matter what activity you bribe them with, no matter how much you beg, their chores just won’t get done until dinner. And they’ll be mad at YOU that they didn’t get to go on the activity you bribed them with.
  2. Invest in a fire proof safe with a lock to throw all the remotes, phones, and other electronics the children try to occupy their time with. They will then spend their day trying out different lock combinations which 1. helps them use their brains and 2. occupies them for hours electronics free. Win!
  3. They EAT! and EAT and EAT and EAT!! My food bill is INSANE!! I am always running to the store.
  4. They are so much fun when they incessantly fight with each other for hours and hours and hours on end. The minute you start a project, that is the minute you will NOT finish the project because you will then be pulled away to referee the next fight.
  5. You wouldn’t trade those moments for the world. I’ve had to work, and I know how precious my time is with them.

That being said, you do have to actually feed the kids once in awhile. Today we pulled some of our favorite summer time treats (old and new!) to try:
