Garlic Herb Top Sirloin Steak

November 22, 2020 by burntapple Leave a Comment

I blame the cruise. The kids were introduced to cuts of meat like filet mignon and since have decided that they have inherited a love for steak. But they don’t pay for the steak and have no concept of what it costs. We save steak for those nights we want a nice meal and this garlic herb top sirloin steak is perfect. It doesn’t break the bank and occasionally our Kroger store offers buy one get one free specials so I will pick some steaks up and freeze them.

Why Sirloin Steak?

Sirloin steak is a very flavorful meat. It’s also a very tender cut of meat. It takes on the taste of whatever flavors you use. And it’s relatively inexpensive. Top sirloin is also very quick and easy to cook and doesn’t require a lot of cooking time.

What Cut of Meat is Top Sirloin?

Top sirloin comes from the rear back of the cow and there are two parts–top sirloin and bottom sirloin. Top sirloin is usually the more tender cut.

What is the Best Way To Cook Sirloin Steak?

There are several ways to prepare sirloin steak but my favorite ways are on the grill or stovetop. Cooking the steak should only take just a few minutes.

Garlic Herb Top Sirloin Steak

Serving Size:
4 steaks
Time:
15 min
Difficulty:
Moderate

Ingredients

  • 4 top sirloin steaks
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 4 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp herb seasoning (thyme, parsley, chives, rosemary, etc) we like using an herbs de provence seasoning blend for ease.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper on each side of each steak to season.
  2. Place a skillet on the stove along with the one tablespoon of oil. Heat on medium to medium high heat. Spread the oil evenly in the pan.
  3. Once pan and oil are heated, arrange the steaks in the pan. Cook for approximately 4-5 minutes each side. Flip the steak and cook an additional few minutes. (See temperatures for meat doneness below).
  4. While the steaks are cooking, whip together the softened butter, garlic clove and herbs until light and fluffy (approximately 1-2 minutes on medium speed on the mixer)
  5. Once meat is cooked to desired doneness, remove from heat and generously spread with butter. Allow steak to remain in pan for approximately five minutes to allow butter and flavors to mix into the meat. Serve.
  6. Serve with potatoes, salad, vegetables and/or rolls.

Meat Temperature Chart:

  • Rare: 130 degrees F
  • Medium Rare: 135 degrees F
  • Medium: 145 degrees F
  • Medium well: 150 degrees F
  • Well done: 160 degrees F
