Today is my anniversary. (I think). I really think my husband married me because I frequently forget his birthday, don't complain the years that he forgets my birthday (heck, I GAVE him a free pass to forget my birthday after I turned 30) and our anniversary? Most of the time I can't remember if we got married the 2nd, the 3rd, or the 4th. We got married the day before the Big Game. That is the most important thing, right? A honeymoon snuggled in bed watching the Big Game. Sure beats that year I spent the Big Game in the ER with him. I had to squint to see the score on the ten inch screen. I guess I didn't realize back then when I thought I had picked an easy way to remember our anniversary I didn't remember that the Big Game could fall on the 1st or the 7th of February--but that my anniversary date never changed.
Since we are sports lovers this year I'm going with a sports themed gift basket for our anniversary and Valentine's Day. With my husband on the road four days a week our relationship has changed. Closeness in our relationship is hard. Often, feeling connected comes in the form of text messages thanking each other for the sacrifices each of us is making--him having to be away from his family, and me holding down the house here at home. The weekends have also become hard too. He often just wants to relax at home and have a good home cooked meal after being on the road and staying in hotels, and I'm ready to eat out and get away from the kids and house. Developing a closer relationship through the miles and days requires a lot more work and an effort to devoting time to each other.
This basket will be waiting for him when he returns home on Friday.
