    Burnt Out

March 18, 2014 by burntapple Leave a Comment

I get emails all the time asking about me. As if I'm this totally interesting person behind the scenes of my 12 inch computer screen. So today I'm letting you go behind the scenes and find out that there really isn't a whole lot that goes on in my brain. It's pretty empty folks.

But keep reading. I'll let you find that one out for yourselves. Thanks for putting up with my burn out today.

    1. THE LAST THING YOU PUT IN YOUR MOUTH

I think it was a no grain Paleo cake pop for the cookbook I'm working on. Surprisingly good. Also a perfect breakfast. I washed it down with some muesli cereal. The flax seeds that reappear hours later in your mouth from nowhere always amaze me.

    2. NAME SOMEONE WHO MADE YOU LAUGH TODAY

Someone always makes me laugh everyday, but today it goes to the dogs. Our big dog was taking a nap on the couch and the puppy decided it was play time. She pounced on the big dogs back. Big dog didn't like it so she barked and scared the little puppy straight up into the air on all fours. Of course, she isn't graceful on the landings so she missed the couch coming down and did a few somersaults across the floor. The joys of youth. Last time I tried to do a somersault I heard a few too many cracks in wierd places.

    3. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG?

Yes. Although my competitive nature helps me with this.

    4. WORST MESS YOU WAKE UP TO IN THE MORNING?

My kitchen counter covered in graham crackers, peanut butter and milk. It's my husbands midnight low blood sugar drug of choice. Although I am totally grateful he caught the low himself, there is something about the combination of graham cracker, peanut butter and milk becoming a pastey superglue on your counter by morning that causes a small grumble to erupt from me as I clean it up.

    5. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM?

    Mint chocolate chip.

    6. THE MOST ANNOYING THING YOU HEAR ABOUT DIABETES?

Because we are a health site, I get 5-10 inquiries a week with people wanting to cure my husband's diabetes with some magic pill, elixir, food, exercise program, life coaching program, retreats, non surgical procedures, vitamin regimen...

Yes, it is that bad. And no, there is currently NO standard 'cure' for Type 1 diabetes. Yet.

    7. CAN YOU LIVE A DAY WITHOUT TV?

Yes, but if you take away my Google I feel lost. Actually, I do get lost without Google. And occasionally Google gets me lost.

    8. WHAT ITEMS COULD YOU NOT GO WITHOUT DURING THE DAY?

Google. Hand sanitizer. My family. I'm including the dogs with that too. My computer.

    9. THE MOST ANNOYING THING PEOPLE SAY TO YOU ABOUT DIABETES:

It makes me really angry when people are afraid to ask my husband or say to him to his face they feel they can openly say to me. They ask me why he is eating what he is (I try to be open minded about that one and use it as an education moment). They ask me if I've happened to hear of this new vitamin out on the market and would I happen to pass along a sample and information about their MLM company and how we can get involved and sell the product too. I have also had people in finding out my husband had diabetes tell me all of their horror stories of relatives who have lost limbs, died early of heart attacks and other heart wrenching stories that cause me a sleepless night. Those days, those stories and those moments all cause me to want to hug my kids and husband tighter and be grateful for all that I have now.

    10. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST?

I of course miss my Dad because he was so young and his grandkids are still so young too. I miss talking to him. But I miss my grandma a lot too. As I've gotten older I feel I've been able to identify with her more and more and just want her positive attitude and snarky bits of humor around. I really miss taking her out for coffee too.

    11. ARE YOU A BAD INFLUENCE?

Probably a mixture of both. I hope my kids take the good influence moments I am on them and not the bad. Because that might mean they pick up a lot of the four letter words I utter under my breath. Which goes back to the wonderful influence grandma had on me and the reason I got my mouth washed out with soap at the tender age of five. Grandma said it was French but I learned early on it wasn't.

    12. IF YOU COULD BE ANYONE ELSE FOR A DAY, WHO WOULD YOU BE?

My husband. Or a celebrity. I would love to know what goes through my husband's brain though and what he really thinks of some of my antics.

    13. DO YOU THINK TOO MUCH OR TOO LITTLE?

Too much. My brain is always going and going and going.

    14. WHAT SONG IS STUCK IN YOUR HEAD? When you have kids it's any song that they play. Because they can't just play it once. Oh no, it's over, and over and over again.

    15. DO YOU THINK THERE IS A CURE FOR DIABETES?

Eventually. We've been waiting 30 years. We're just grateful for all of the advancements that have made living with it easier. I couldn't imagine having to boil needles.
