    Five Ingredient Mexican Chocolate Brownies for One

    First off these brownies rose beautifully, have an amazing fudgy texture to them and only use five ingredients! Second, a pinch of chili powder provides a lot sweet with a little heat and warmth to every bite. And lastly, these are perfect for Cinco de Mayo and only take twenty minutes to cook!

    Are These Brownies Spicy?

    No! There isn't enough chili powder in the recipe to make the brownies spicy. Most likely you'll find these brownies taste just like that traditional brownie you are used to with a hint of heat and warmth at the end in every bite.

    Oven or Microwave?

    I'm not a huge fan of microwave mug cakes unless they have a TON of frosting on them. This recipe is an oven cake and has a nice traditional fudgy texture and taste with a hint of heat. You can frost them, but I think they taste great without the frosting!

    What is Mexican Chocolate?

    Mexican chocolate is different than traditional chocolate. It's texture is often more grainy and flavors are often mixed in to enhance the flavor. Often Mexican chocolate is found in recipes varying from mole to cakes.

    There are several types of Mexican chocolate flavors commonly found:

    Chile Chocolate

    Chile chocolate includes some spice along with the chocolate. Chocolate is usually fused with chili powder and sometimes even a little cayenne pepper to give a warmth to the chocolate.

    Mexican Spice

    Chocolate that blends so perfectly with spices like vanilla, cinnamon and/or nutmeg. It's delicious and wraps all the best baking flavor combinations into one.

    Substitutions

    • Flour: You can substitute unbleached all purpose flour or keto flour for the gluten free flour used in this recipe.
    • Sugar: You are welcome to substitute for calorie free sugar as long as it can be substituted equally for granulated sugar.
    • Chili: The chili in this recipe can be omitted if you would like but we enjoy that little bit of warmth and heat at the end of every bite.
    • Butter: You can substitute dairy free butter for the butter in this recipe
    • Egg: These can be made egg free by using egg replacer or a flax egg

    Five Ingredient Mexican Chocolate Brownie For One

    A lot sweet with a little heat these delicious gluten free mexican chocolate fudge brownies only require a few ingredients and are perfect for Cinco de Mayo!

    Ingredients
      

    • ⅛ cup butter melted
    • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
    • ⅛ cup flour (see notes for substitutions)
    • ⅛ cup cocoa powder
    • 1 pinch chili powder

    Instructions
     

    • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 6 oz ramekin and set aside. 
      Stir together ingredients in a bowl just until combined. Pour the brownie mixture into the ramekin. 
      Bake for 15-18 minutes for gooey brownies or 20-22 minutes for cake like brownies. Remove from oven and allow brownies to cool. Sprinkle with additional small pinch of chili powder if desired for decorating.
