    Free Stuff for Colitis

Published: Oct 9, 2022 by burntapple · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

There are plenty of free stuff for colitis! Colitis is a chronic condition that causes inflammation in your colon. It can be autoimmune and severe enough to cause ulcers. I’m sugarcoating it so basically feels like someone is taking a match to your colon. On top of dealing with that you’re trying to deal with nausea and holding down everything you eat on the upper end while the lower end reassigns you to the bathroom for hours on end. The rest of your body feels like it’s battling the flu.

    Is Colitis a Disability

Some variations of colitis may qualify for disability. This would mean that you could qualify for additional helps and services. You can read more below to see if you might qualify.

    IS COLITIS A DISABILITY?

Loss of Income Due to Colitis

Colitis can be debilitating. Often it can lead to lost work, time away from activities and even family. You do get to see A LOT of the bathroom though.

All jokes aside there are plenty of times that I stress during a flare up and many of you do to! If you experience a loss of income because you are sick.

    Free Stuff for Colitis

This isn’t a cheap or inexpensive disease to have. Just a few of the expenses include:

    • Specialty diet (no gluten no dairy)
    • Vitamin therapy during flare ups
    • Emergency room visits during flare ups
    • Prescription medication
    • Over the counter medication
    • Doctor visits
    • Counselor for stress reduction

It is always helpful to have some assistance with colitis. Here are some resources that I have found:

    Specialists

Modify Health: Many people who suffer from bowel or stomach disorders like colitis try out the FODMAP diet. Modify Health offers a free meal planning session with a dietician. They also offer ship to your home ready made freezer meals and offer free meals with the purchase of several meals.

Mother to Baby: What medications can you take if you’re breastfeeding and have a flareup? What about if you’re pregnant? Can you take a Pepto Bismol shot? Support Groups

Whether you’re a colitis long hauler or just recently diagnosed, there are support groups available across the country for you. There are even support groups available on Facebook and other social media outlets. IBD Foundation.

    Medication

Nothing is more disgruntling than walking into your doctors office to hear about their trip to Hawaii and thinking you’ve been in this office so much recently you probably single handedly supported the trip.

Medications are expensive and trips to and from the pharmacy can be exhausting!

But there are a few ways to get some free samples!

P&G Good Everyday periodically gives out samples of over the counter medications like Pepto Bismol naturals and more. You can also get free coupons and samples at pepto-bismol.com

If you’re looking for other over the counter medication samples you can go directly to the website of the manufacturer and see if they offer free samples.

    Travel

Does anyone else get sick when traveling different time zones? Worry about how you will eat in a different area? If you worry too, IBD Passport is a foundation that helps answer questions on how to travel with various medications and finding a physician while traveling if needed. It has a variety of different free helps and resources and the best part is the organization is run by a nurse who lives with Irritable Bowel Syndrome!

     Food

If you are on a specialized diet for your stomach disorder, there are some ways to save money on food that (literally!) costs half your paycheck!

In fact, I found five ways!
