    Homemade Peppermint Extract Gift

    November 5, 2013 by burntapple 3 Comments

Making your own homemade extracts is quick and easy with these simple and easy instructions! Each homemade gift costs just a few dollars to make and a few minutes of your time! Your friends and neighbors will rave about this delicious peppermint extract!

Why am I sharing this gift idea now? Because our peppermint extract has been stewing since early October. You are going to want to start making this gift now in order to have it ready in time for Christmas. It's not a time consuming gift to make--we're talking minutes. But it does take a good month of sitting in order to finish.

You'll need several things in order to start:

A bottle of vodka or white rum

Peppermint or spearmint leaves (or a combination of both)

1-2oz Glass Bottles--we found ours at AromaTools

    Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips

Once the extract is finished, you can give a bottle of extract and a bag of Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips as a gift to a neighbor, friend or family member. They make the perfect gifts!

    Ingredients

    • Equal Parts Vodka or White Rum and Peppermint or Spearmint Leaves
    • Mason Jar

    Instructions

    1. Wash and dry leaves. Measure and place into a mason jar. Place equal parts vodka or white rum into the mason jar. Screw on the lid of the mason jar, label and allow to sit in a cool dark place for approximately one month. After one month, remove the lid, taste for doneness. If extract needs more time to increase flavor intensity, return lid and allow to sit for several weeks more. When extract is finished, strain leaves from extract and pour into 1-2 oz glass bottles. Label.

I've been making over recipes since I was ten. Back then I wasn't so great at it and created everything from rubber cakes for my Dad's birthday to rock muffins that put a hole in the wall.

Diagnosed with colitis ten years ago and with three young children I had to learn to cook. But life was busy and there wasn't a lot of time to cook or figure out what I could eat!

Burnt Apple became my personal coffee shop--a place to share, talk and vent! I share minimal ingredient recipes with five ingredients or less and ready in under thirty minutes!

Welcome home...to a REAL home! One that is busy, on the go and doesn't have time to sit all day in the kitchen!

So stop in, find a copycat restaurant favorite you've been craving or a tantalizing treat! Bite into a slice of fresh warm bread or find a quick weeknight meal.

All of our recipes include adaptations for a variety of different dietary needs. Most of our recipes are gluten free and many are dairy free and FODMAP friendly too! All recipes are easily labeled for you.
