If I had a choice to eat anything it would be dessert. I really could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And dessert.
However, it's been really, really, really hard lately with the surreal things going on in my personal life to get the time to get into the kitchen. There really is no time and the motivation to create anything new hasn't been there. And that for me is crazy because I usually think about dessert ideas ALL THE TIME!!!
I've given up and let others take the lead while I can't. I'm sure my creative dessert ideas will come back shortly. But for now while I'm not feeling well I need to focus on what's most important.
Most of you know that I have had some pretty sidelining health issues and now eat gluten free, dairy free and have really cut down on the amount of white sugar. And it's been a challenge to find treats that I can eat here where I live. I order from companies and have several cookbooks that allow me to eat or adapt things the way that I need to.
Here are some companies and books I'm loving right now:
Crave Bakery was one of the first gluten free, dairy free bakeries in San Francisco. The recipes are just spot on and I was so sad that I got to San Francisco and the bakery closed. But I have loved the recipe book! The recipes are incredible and I've been easily able to sub the sugars I can have for the sugars in the book.
I first saw this company on Shark Tank. That show is quickly becoming my credit cards nemesis. But it's all good because I get some yummy food and learn about companies I may not come across. Liz Lovely was one of them. A few weeks ago I ordered a sample pack that had every cookie and every truffle they make in it and I've enjoyed them thoroughly.
And I highly recommend the cookie truffles. AMAZING!!! While their products are gluten free and dairy free and egg free unfortunately her products aren't refined sugar free. But they are a nice little treat while I grade papers at night and have I mentioned they are AMAZING? Can totally overlook that small detail.
Sometimes I want to take a HUGE bite of a mouth watering, fatty awesome donut. I want the powdered sugar to explode in my mouth and crust my lips. I want to lick the maple frosting off my fingers. Katz gluten free is my donut indulgence. A good Katz donut is my best friend when I am having one of my days.
Unfortunately my neighbor boy with a gluten allergy has also recently discovered my stash in the freezer and when he comes over they disappear quickly.
And all the other neighbor kids who join my son and his friend enjoy the donuts and have no idea they are gluten free. And leave the empty box in the freezer so when I want my donut and reach into the freezer I get nothing. NOTHING.
And then my son hears his first, middle and last name called very, VERY loudly through the house. Because when I'm having one of THOSE DAYS and need a donut and am greeted by an empty box...not a happy Mom.
Might I suggest the pumpkin spice and powdered. They are gluten free but not dairy or refined sugar free. But they are donuts! DONUTS!!!
I've also got you a free sample pack and 35% off your first order. Click here and scroll down for more details.
I should've felt guiltier. But it was my forks fault, really. (Totally deferring the blame). My sister in law left several of her brownies in the freezer at a recent family gathering. She has several food allergies and we now eat very similar foods. She lives in California and has an amazing bakery by her and just fails to call me before we meet to get the cousins together. So she brings all these lovely amazing treats and I never get the opportunity to put in my own order so when she stores them in the freezer I just happen to sample.
Well, the fork does really.
And it's really just a little bite here and there.
I usually slip her a $20 to cover the damages caused by my fork.
But the brownies are the best brownies I have ever had. All the desserts are grain free, gluten free, refined sugar free, dairy free and egg free. And while you are rolling your eyes and thinking "cardboard" I promise you I have NEVER had a brownie that has had almost every ingredient known to man taken out of it that can taste that good. The brownies have a light crispy crust and edges and the typical soft moist interior that you expect in a brownie.
And I am always grateful my sister in law doesn't complain that I eat like three of them while she visits. Or maybe she silently anticipates my descending fork and now plans on it. Either way, she's very patient with me.
