    Peppermint Homemade Conditioner

    December 1, 2014 by burntapple 1 Comment

This wonderful smelling peppermint homemade conditioner smells just like a candy cane but will also moisturize hair, prevent breakage and reduce split ends. (It will also leave you looking fabulous!)

homemade hair conditionerI love making homemade gifts. They are beautiful gestures to show others that I've put the time and effort into letting them know that I care. Having a preteen daughter has taught me a lot. For one I am navigating some uncharted waters with hormones, mood swings, junior high drama, and dandruff. Yes the poor thing has to deal with that too. We've tried over the counter products, natural products and homemade remedies. It's been a tough thing for her and I wanted to show her how that I understand what she is going through. (Even though she thinks that I don't. Hormones!).

So this holiday I'm giving her some conditioner that she's used before, just in a prettier holiday scent. This homemade conditioner contains some great ingredients. Coconut oil is great for conditioning hair and stopping split ends, jojoba oil helps give hair shine, increases the moisture content of hair and keeps the scalp from drying out, argan oil is beneficial for repairing damaged hair, and peppermint oil  works as a scalp stimulator. (It also gives you that cool scalp tingle).

We found all the ingredients we needed really inexpensively on eBay and Amazon. The jar is from Hobby Lobby. The ingredients will cost less than $25 and you can make several high quality gifts.

    Ingredients

    • 6 tablespoons coconut oil
    • 1 tablespoon jojoba oil
    • ½ tablespoon argan oil
    • Drops of peppermint essential oil (or other essential oil of your choice

    Instructions

    1. Warm coconut oil until it melts. You can do this on the stovetop or in the microwave. Stir until smooth, then add in the jojoba oil, argan oil and peppermint oil, stirring to combine. Pour the mixture into a jar to store. The oil will reset to a little softer consistency than coconut oil. Sprinkle crushed candy canes on top to decorate if desired.
    2. To Use: As a conditioner, scoop out a small amount in the shower and work into the hair from the ends to the scalp. Allow to sit in hair for 2-3 minutes than rinse.
    3. To use as a hot oil treatment rub through slightly damp hair. Wrap hair in a warm towel and allow to sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse.

    About Me

minimal ingredient recipes with five ingredients or less and ready in under thirty minutes! many recipes are gluten free, dairy free and FODMAP friendly too!

I've been making over recipes since I was ten. Back then I wasn't so great at it and created everything from rubber cakes for my Dad's birthday to rock muffins that put a hole in the wall.

Diagnosed with colitis ten years ago and with three young children I had to learn to cook. But life was busy and there wasn't a lot of time to cook or figure out what I could eat!

Burnt Apple became my personal coffee shop--a place to share, talk and vent! I share minimal ingredient recipes with five ingredients or less and ready in under thirty minutes!
