Spring Butterfly Cupcakes

Once upon a time, a little girl with golden red hair had a birthday. She was an energetic and happy girl who was always on the go with someplace to go explore. Sometimes you could catch her in the yard catching bugs, and other times she could be seen dancing around the room, pretending to be Rapunzel.

The best part is she had a really, really cool aunt that she loved the most. Totally kidding. This girl is lucky to have a lot of great aunts and I'm just the one that got to make her some beautiful butterfly cupcakes.

This cupcake recipe is simple to make. The only request from my niece was that they had to be chocolate cupcakes. Can you tell we love our chocolate in my family? We always seem to be able to incorporate chocolate into any dessert.

Buttercream Frosting Recipe

Spring Butterfly Cupcakes

Ingredients

  • Butterfly Cupcakes
  • Vanilla Cupcakes or Chocolate Cupcakes, made from scratch or from a box.
  • Buttercream Frosting Recipe
  • Milk Chocolate Spring Color Mix M&M's
  • Pretzels
  • White Chocolate

Instructions

  1. Bake cupcakes according to recipe instructions. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting. If using chocolate cupcakes, you will want to spread a generous layer of chocolate frosting on top of each cupcake. If using vanilla, spread a layer of buttercream on the top of the cupcakes.
  2. Take approximately ½-1 cup of the buttercream frosting and place it in a Ziploc bag. Snip off a small corner of the bag. You will use this to pipe the body of the butterfly.
  3. Pipe the body of the butterfly onto the middle of the cupcake. Place pretzels on each side of the body. Place an M&M on the top of the body for the head. Use black licorice ropes for antenna. (We did not use as we couldn't find it).
  4. You can use plain pretzels, or dip them in melted white chocolate that has been dyed. We happened to find our colored pretzels in the bulk candy section of the grocery store.
