Everything you need to know about starting on a gluten free diet plus get my free guide packed with gluten free resources and lot's of helpful links!

    What is It?

Ten years ago when I was diagnosed with colitis, I can tell you truthfully that I had absolutely no clue as to what a gluten free diet was! Gluten is the protein part of certain grains like wheat, barley, rye or other similar grains. Some people are found to be allergic to the gluten in these grains and so need to have a gluten free diet. Others may develop intolerances to gluten.

    Treatment

The treatment is simple. Eat gluten free! If you suffer from gluten intolerance or celiac disease you may have to live your whole life on a gluten free diet to be able to live a normal healthy life. A consultation with a doctor or nutritionist first is important. You need to get the diet that's right for you.

If you suffer from either of these gluten allergies a diet that can suit your special needs can be formulated and you can live a good life! You do need to stay away from wheat based products and educate yourself on foods that may hide gluten.

    Foods You Can Eat

    Are Oats Gluten Free?

If you like oats, then you'll be glad to hear that you don't have to eliminate oats or oat products from your diet. If they've been processed free of the contaminating effects of wheat or such other grains, then you should be okay. But you will have to make sure that this is the case otherwise you may be inadvertently admitting some gluten into your system.

    What Are Gluten Free Oats

    Other Gluten Free Foods

Other foods you can eat on your gluten free diet may include corn, soya, rice, potato and tapioca. Your gluten free diet can also include fresh fruits and vegetables, along with meat, eggs, butter, milk and cheese. You can even have have tea and coffee, fizzy drinks and most alcoholic drinks as well.

    Foods to Avoid

Staying on a gluten free diet is not always easy! There are so many foods that have hidden gluten in them. Ready prepared foods might contain products with gluten in them. Gluten may be hiding in the foods you eat at restaurants, potlucks or buffets too! It is important to get help and education on eating a gluten free diet.
