There are so many...SO MANY days that I don't want to throw on those shoes and get outside.
Cold weather, windy weather, too sunny, a liiiiitle too warm. Kids called and need me to drop off a forgotten permission slip. Gotta make an impromptu run to the store for a forgotten dinner ingredient. I've got plenty of exuses to not do it.
So why do I?
It started almost three years ago when I couldn't get my then toddler to take naps. She would get tired right about the time that the kids got home from school and then not be able to sleep.
And then there was the dog that my husband brought home. She was an active dog who needed lot's of exercise.
I was struggling with getting the dog's walk in, my toddler's nap in and exercise for me. It felt like an all day process. I used to run in junior high, high school and college. Not anything major, but I ran. I figured if I could load the toddler in the jogger stroller and put the leash on the dog I could get three things done in one.
It worked! Three years later my now (almost) four year old still loves to come with me on our runs and play in her stroller and talk to me while we run. Although with her now it feels more like a cardio strength training workout. She's getting so big!
We love running up the canyon, taking our local running trail out to feed the horses or running to the library.
Three years after I started I went from running a 5K to a half marathon. I could do more but the kids keep me pretty busy and I feel I need to focus on them. Not every run feels amazing, but when I glance at my mileage for the week I love seeing how much faster my pace has become or how my mileage has increased. I love the challenge and the variety. No workout is the same. Today I ran in wind gusts and 60 degree temps, yesterday I ran in 80 degree temps. Yesterday I hit the pavement, today I was on a mountain trail.
Exercise is now a part of me. I just do it. No matter what. I might work out at 5 in the morning or 8 at night, but I schedule it into my day.
To help me along, Zappos keeps me looking good so I feel good while working out with over 150,000 styles from over 1,000 brands. Zappos has become more than shoes--they are a brand focused on shoes, fashion, community, culture and customer service with fast and free shipping, a 365 day return policy, and a 24/7 customer service team.
This weekend Zappos is playing host for the Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco. The race is amazing and along one of the most gorgeous routes in San Francisco overlooking the bay. If you put a race on your schedule this year or next, make it this one!!
Don't forget to head to Zappos now to get your gear and get working out!
