Wicked *HOT* Hot Wings and Drummettes

    August 31, 2015 by burntapple 14 Comments

Today is a really fun day. Tailgating recipes are a favorite of our family, mainly because we LOVE football season. Football season is an excuse to break out the grill in the middle of freezing cold weather. It's an excuse to not have to pack away all the summer coolers and chairs in storage. And it's just an excuse to eat some really, really good food.

    hot wings

Today as part of the Secret Recipe Club, we're highlighting some amazing tailgating recipes you can use at your own party.

I'm featuring Sarah from Oreos and Cool Whip. She has some fantastic tailgating recipes. In addition to this wicked hot wings recipe we're making, these other tailgating recipes caught our eyes:

    oreos and cool whip

L-R: Chicken Taco Calzones, Deep Dish Hot Fudge Brownie,  Steak Quesadillas

We loved the amazing hot flavor these wings gave. And please excuse me. I asked my daughter to grab wings at the grocery store and came home to drummettes. Still delicious!

    Wicked HOT Wings

    Ingredients

    • 16-20 chicken wings, drummettes or 8-10 drumsticks
    • 1 Tbsp oil
    • ½ c plus 1 Tbsp Frank's Red Hot Sauce
    • ¾ c flour
    • ½ tsp salt
    • ½ tsp chipotle powder
    • ¼ c butter

    Instructions

    1. In a large resealable plastic bag place the wings, drummettes or drumsticks in a bag with 1 tbsp of hot sauce. Shake to mix.
    2. In a small bowl stir together the flour, salt and chipotle powder. Evenly coat the wings in the flour mixture. Place wings on a lightly coated baking tray and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for one hour.
    3. Melt the butter and stir together with the remaining hot sauce. Remove the wings from the refrigerator and dip each wing in the butter/hot sauce mixture. Place the chicken wings back on the baking tray.
    4. Place wings in a cold oven. Heat oven to 400 degrees and bake for 45-60 minutes.
    5. Serve wings hot.

I made this last night to test for the Superbowl party I am having. Came out great! I like the idea there isn't as much butter as a lot of other recipes, and they were perfect! Thanks a lot for posting this recipe.:)

I've been making over recipes since I was ten. Back then I wasn't so great at it and created everything from rubber cakes for my Dad's birthday to rock muffins that put a hole in the wall.

Burnt Apple became my personal coffee shop--a place to share, talk and vent! I share minimal ingredient recipes with five ingredients or less and ready in under thirty minutes!
