History of Chicken Salad Sandwich
Today's history lesson takes us back to 1808 where the first written recipe of mixing mayonaise with chicken was recorded in France. Since that time, it's become a classic recipe staple in the United States and often gets mentioned as a top Fourth of July recipe in the United States.
Traditionally, it's served on a croissant but you can serve it a number of different ways. I listed some ideas under "serving."
While this recipe uses celery, I've seen grapes, tomatoes and other ingredients mixed in. You can decide what you like the best!

Serving
If you are using gluten free bread, I've traditionally seen chicken salad sandwiches served on a croissant. That's a wee bit harder to do if you can't have gluten. Here are a couple of other bread ideas:
- Serve open faced on a toasted piece of bread
- Gluten free bun--I'll use gluten free hamburger buns
- Crackers
- Gluten free croissants-I have been able to find them at my local grocery store (Schar Brand) but you can also find them online too. Just click the link below! (Contains affiliate link)
Preparing
Cut the chicken and celery then place it in a bowl with the remaining ingredients. Stir it together and your meal is ready!
Storing
Because this meal has mayonaise, it probably won't store for very long. You will want to keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator and eat it within a few days.
