Delicious flank steak salad with juicy steak, crisp apple slices, tangy bleu cheese and a drizzle of vinaigrette.

A close-up of a flank steak salad on a white plate. The salad greens appear to be spinach. Slices of flank steak are arranged on top of the greens. There are also crumbled bits of feta cheese scattered around the plate. In the background, there is a glimpse of a brown wooden table and a white napkin.

    Ingredients

This salad uses simple ingredients that you can customize to your liking:

    • Steak: The star of the show is the steak. Grill it or pan sear it, either way works.
    • Apple slices: The best apples are crisp and juicy!
    • Bleu cheese: Cheese is cheese but bleu cheese in this recipe just adds a little something.
    • Bacon: Bacon makes life better but can be omitted if desired.
    • Vinaigrette: The vinaigrette in this recipe just balances everything out and makes the salad come together.

    Instructions

    • Heat grill or pan on medium heat. Pour 1-2 tablespoons of oil into the pan if pan frying. Place steak in the pan or on the grill and cook for 5-6 minutes on medium heat. Flip steak and cook additional 5-6 minutes or until steak is cooked to desire doneness. (use meat thermometer). Remove from heat and allow steak to sit for several minutes.
    • Cut steak into strips. Arrange two cups of salad on each plate, then top with bacon bits, approximately ½ apple cut into bite sized pieces, steak and ¼ cup bleu cheese. Drizzle vinaigrette on top. Serve.

    Substitutions

Your flank steak salad is already gluten free! But there are some other substitutions you can make:

    • Cheese: If you're not a fan of bleu cheese, substitute feta or goat cheese.
    • Steak: If you are wanting to change things up, you can substitute the steak for chicken or other protein.
    • Spinach: You can substitute another type of lettuce if you would like.

    Equipment

You will need a grill. If you don't have a grill, feel free to use a pan or the oven method for cooking your steak.

    Storing

This salad is best served fresh.

    FAQ

What kind of steak should I use?

We use a good old flank steak for this recipe. It's perfect for using in salads. It is used in salads because it cooks quickly and pairs well with fresh greens and vegetables, adding protein and depth of flavor to the dish.

What type of apples could I use in this recipe?

We recommend honeycrisp, fuji, pink lady or other similar types of apples.

How should I slice flank steak for salad?

Slice flank steak thinly against the grain. This helps break up the muscle fibers, making the steak easier to chew. Use a sharp knife and slice the steak at a slight angle for the best results.
