My youngest has loved dogs since she was young. We've had almost every type of dog themed birthday you can imagine minus the one year we threw her a tea party. I mean, we've even done a dog DNA reveal party!

This year while we were walking through Walmart, I saw The Pioneer Woman's Charlie the Ranch Dog birthday candles and balloons. My daughter saw it too and was sold!
WHO IS CHARLIE THE RANCH DOG?
The Pioneer Woman lives on a ranch in Oklahoma with her cows, kids and dogs. Charlie was a lazy basset hound who loves to lay around, eat bacon and thinks he rules the house. He has some fun adventures along the way and for any dog lover, reading Charlie the Ranch Dog is a must!
The books are written for children ages 4-8 but kids of all ages (including myself) love reading about Charlie's adventures! We also love catching up with all The Pioneer Woman's dogs on her website and Instagram!
You can read more about Charlie's story here.
DECORATIONS FOR CHARLIE THE RANCH DOG BIRTHDAY PARTY
Walmart didn't have too many Charlie the Ranch Dog birthday decorations, so I built off a lot of the colors that were on the balloon and candle I found. We went with a red paisley bandana theme.

CHARLIE THE RANCH DOG PARTY FOOD
Our party was a little tougher because we are just coming out of COVID-19 restrictions. We felt it was the best to have a pool party--chlorine kills germs right? We just had a graduation party for my oldest for family and it was a TON of work so I got a little tired out by the time that my youngests' birthday rolled around. May, June and July are BUSY months for our family with lot's of events, holidays and family parties and with a high school graduation thrown in this year it added a whole layer. We had to plan her graduation party over three days, hold it with smaller groups and disinfect in between. We also had to have all the meals individually packaged because buffet was out.
So for this round I had some grab and go snacks for the pool like Scooby Doo crackers, water bottles and fruit snacks. This is the fun part because you can go all out with dog themed treats or fun western themed treats too
CHARLIE THE RANCH DOG PARTY GAMES
I wish I had had more energy to put into the party games because it would've been fun but I opted for a pool party. Sometimes I just wear out.
But you could bring some basset hounds over to visit, puppies, horses or mini horses or play some western themed games. You could even do a cooking class and make and decorate some dog treats for a local animal shelter!
CHARLIE THE RANCH DOG CAKE
Our Charlie the Ranch dog cake wasn't anything too exciting or ornate but it turned out cute. We made some printable cupcake toppers and made some goo cake. What is goo cake? Like the best cake ever. it's pretty much the base of better than sex cake. Simply bake a chocolate devils cake mix. when you pull it out of the oven while the cake is still warm poke holes evenly throughout. Drizzle one can of sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cake then drizzle one can of caramel sauce over the top of the cake. Allow the topping to soak into the cake.
Someone decided to sample the cake before we ate it for the birthday.

Love your Charlie birthday! Where did you get the mini books?

My daughter actually had the book and I reduced the size and made copies for the little dogs that went with them.
