Fart Cookies: A No-Bake Treat with a Quirky Name

these cookies have long been misappropriately named. They are often called no bakes, but in our house, we have renamed it…the fart cookie.

Why the fart cookie? The combination of oatmeal, peanut butter and cocoa when combined together forms a unique and rather distinct combination in the stomach which by morning causes an orchestra of noises at the breakfast table. Don’t get me wrong. This cookie is delicious!

    Ingredients

The magic of fart cookies lies in their effortless preparation, requiring no oven or baking expertise. The recipe calls for a handful of pantry staples, including oatmeal, cocoa powder, and a binding agent like peanut butter.

The ingredients you will need are:

    • sugar
    • butter
    • cocoa powder
    • milk
    • vanilla
    • peanut butter
    • oatmeal

    Instructions

In a saucepan you will bring the sugar, butter, cocoa powder and milk to a boil.

Once the mixture comes to a rapid boil, remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla, peanut butter and oatmeal.

Finally you'll drop the cookies by tablespoons onto a cookie sheet and allow them to set up.

Tips and Tricks for Making Fart Cookies

    • For a chewier texture, use quick-cooking oats.
    • To add a touch of whimsy, decorate the cookies with sprinkles or drizzle them with melted chocolate.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why do fart cookies have that name?

The exact reason for the name "fart cookies" remains unclear. Some suggest it's due to the cookies' tendency to cause digestive discomfort, while others attribute it to the interaction of ingredients that produce gas in the stomach.

    Are fart cookies actually cookies?

Though they share the name and some characteristics with traditional cookies, fart cookies are more akin to no-bake granola bars. They lack the crispness and crumbliness typically associated with cookies, but their chewy texture and delightful flavor make them a popular treat.

    Are these cookies healthy?

While they contain oats and peanut butter, which offer some nutritional benefits, fart cookies are also high in sugar and fat. Moderation is key to enjoying these treats as part of a balanced diet.

    SUBSTITUTIONS:
You can also substitute another type of nut butter for the peanut butter and use gluten free oats instead of regular oats. And we often use dairy free alternatives in place of the butter and milk.

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for several days.
