Are you an okra fan? I always thought okra was slimy and gross but I recently tried it again roasted and thought that it tasted really good! Okra becomes a whole new vegetable when you cook it on high heat. It is nice and crispy on the outside and has a soft consistency on the inside with a robust amount of flavor! (gluten free, dairy free, soy free, nut free, egg free, vegan, vegetarian, FODMAP in small amounts)

    Let's Make Roasted Okra Fries

Air fryer okra fries are a delightful alternative to traditional deep-fried okra. With the right preparation and cooking techniques, you can enjoy a healthier version of this beloved Southern treat. So, grab your air fryer, some fresh okra, and get ready to indulge in these crispy delights!

    Ingredients

    • ½ pound okra ends trimmed and pods sliced
    • 1 tsp olive oil
    • ¼ tsp salt
    • ⅛ tsp pepper

    Instructions

Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees. Toss the okra in the olive oil, salt and pepper mixture. Place your okra in a single layer. Cook at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Open the air fryer, toss the okra and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions you might have when making roasted okra fries.

What are air fryers used for?

An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that uses rapid air circulation technology to cook food by circulating hot air around it, producing a crispy texture similar to deep-frying but with significantly less oil.

How do I prepare okra for air frying?

Start by washing and thoroughly drying the okra pods. Trim off the ends and cut them into thin slices or halves, depending on your preference. Removing the slimy texture of okra can be achieved by tossing the sliced okra in some lemon juice or vinegar and letting it sit for a few minutes before patting dry.

Do I need to preheat the air fryer?

Preheating the air fryer is recommended for optimal results. It helps to ensure even cooking and a crispy exterior. Preheat the air fryer at the desired temperature for about 3-5 minutes before adding the okra.

Do I need to use oil to make okra fries in an air fryer?

While air fryers are known for using less oil, a small amount of oil can help enhance the texture and flavor of okra fries. You can lightly spray the okra with cooking oil or toss them in some oil before air frying.

Can I use frozen okra to make fries in an air fryer?

Yes, you can use frozen okra to make fries in an air fryer. However, it's important to thaw and pat dry the frozen okra before air frying to avoid excess moisture.

How do I ensure the okra fries turn out crispy?

To achieve crispy okra fries, ensure that the okra is dry before cooking. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket, as this can lead to uneven cooking. It's also recommended to shake the basket or flip the okra halfway through the cooking process to promote even browning.

What are some serving suggestions for air fryer okra fries?

Air fryer okra fries make a delicious and healthy snack or side dish. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch, ketchup, or spicy mayo. You can also sprinkle some grated Parmesan cheese or a squeeze of fresh lemon juice for added flavor.

Can I store leftover okra fries?

Yes, you can store leftover okra fries in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. To reheat them, simply pop them back in the air fryer for a few minutes until they regain their crispiness.
