Chocolate lovers today we are trying a delicious spicy chocolate recipe! Spicy chocolate tastes amazing and adds a nice balance of opposites with sweet and spicy all rolled into one!
What is spicy chocolate?
It's chocolate with just a touch of added heat. This chocolate is not hot, but you'll just feel a little bit of warmth in every bite. It's the perfect chocolate for trying if you are a chocolate lover or love something a little different. This recipe hails from ancient Mesoamerican civilizations who combined cacao with chili.

Tips
- Choose Quality Chocolate: The better the chocolate, the richer and smoother the final product.
- Balance the Heat: Start with small amounts of spice and banana pepper sauce. You can always add more, but you can’t take it out.
- Temper the Chocolate: If you’re making chocolate bark or molded chocolates, consider tempering the chocolate for a glossy finish and a satisfying snap.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place to maintain texture and flavor.
When stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, spicy chocolate can last up to two weeks. For longer storage, consider refrigeration, but allow the chocolate to return to room temperature before serving.
FAQ
Yes, but keep in mind that milk chocolate is sweeter and less intense than dark chocolate. You might need to adjust the chili powder and banana pepper sauce to balance the flavors.
This recipe has a moderate level of heat. If you prefer it milder, reduce the chili powder and banana pepper sauce. For more heat, increase the quantities gradually and taste as you go.
Fresh chili can be used, but it may introduce moisture that could affect the texture of the chocolate. If using fresh chili, finely chop it and use sparingly.
Banana pepper sauce is a tangy and mildly spicy condiment made from banana peppers. If you don’t have it, you can substitute with another mild hot sauce, but the flavor will vary slightly. We used Millers Banana Pepper sauce which can be purchased here.
