Eating Gluten Free at Universal Studios

Published: Apr 21, 2023 · Modified: Aug 22, 2023 by burntapple · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

Universal Studios is know for its thrilling rides, captivating shows, and delicious dining options, I've taken trips to both parks in California and Florida and eating gluten free at Universal Studios is simple and easy to do! In this guide, I'll show you simple ways to eat gluten-free while indulging in a variety of safe and delicious options.

Universal Studios offers a variety of gluten-free burgers and pizzas and even delectable desserts. If you're a die-hard Harry Potter fan, a lover of the Jurassic Park franchise, or simply seeking an incredible day out, Universal Studios provides a haven for those with dietary restrictions.

Navigating gluten-free dining at Universal Studios

Once you arrive at Universal Studios, navigating the gluten-free dining options is relatively straightforward. The park has designated gluten-free menus and allergen guides available at various dining locations and right from your app or their website. I could easily look up a restaurant and find the menu and foods I could enjoy. These resources provided detailed information about the ingredients, preparation methods, and potential cross-contamination risks associated with each dish.

I also spent a lot of time on good old Google. I actually didn't find it to be too reliable at all. There were some websites and blogs that had uploaded information but when I went to the actual restaurant I found it to be out of date or the option they listed not available. If you don't have the app you can Google the restaurant or search it from the Universal website and it will bring you to the menu for the restaurant and if there are any dietary accomodations.

Universal Studios also offers the option to speak with a chef or a trained team member who can address any specific dietary concerns or questions you may have. Don't hesitate to take advantage of this service, as it can provide peace of mind and ensure that your meal is prepared with the utmost care. I would recommend doing this prior to your visit as it gets difficult once you get to the park. You can also email a Guest Services Team Member at [email protected].

Highlighting gluten-free menu items and restaurants

Universal Studios boasts a wide range of gluten-free menu items and dedicated restaurants that cater to gluten-free diners. From quick-service options to sit-down restaurants, there is something for everyone. This is just a small sampling too! At almost every restaurant we went to, they could accomodate gluten free buns on hamburgers for me, or offere at least one gluten free item.

    Three Broomsticks

Three Broomsticks is an iconic restaurant located in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter offers a variety of gluten-free options, including the famous Butterbeer. Indulge in a hearty meal of roasted chicken, and ribs all prepared to meet gluten-free standards.

    Lombard's Seafood Grille

Located in the Hollywood area, Lombard's Seafood Grille offers a delightful dining experience with a focus on seafood. Gluten-free options include fresh fish, shrimp, and salads. Be sure to inform the server about your dietary restrictions to ensure a safe and enjoyable meal.

    Mythos Restaurant

As the winner of numerous dining awards, Mythos Restaurant is a must-visit for any food enthusiast. This Mediterranean-inspired restaurant offers gluten-free options such as grilled salmon, steak, and a variety of salads.

    Cafe La Bamba

Located in Universal Studios Florida, Cafe La Bamba offers delicious Tex-Mex faire. The menu includes salsa and chips, salads, rice bowls, and tacos.

    Thunder Falls Terrace

Located inside Universal Island's of Adventure in Florida, Thunder Falls Terrace offers meatless options to plenty of carnivore lover meals as well. You can find rice bowls, turkey legs, BBQ ribs, rotisserie chicken, salads and more!

Tips for a safe and enjoyable gluten-free experience

While Universal Studios strives to provide a safe and enjoyable gluten-free experience, it's always important to take additional precautions. Here are some tips to ensure your visit is as seamless as possible:

    Communication is key

Inform the restaurant staff about your gluten-free needs, and don't hesitate to ask questions about ingredients or preparation methods. Clear communication can help prevent cross-contamination and ensure your meal is prepared correctly.

Pay attention to labels and packaging

If you decide to purchase pre-packaged snacks or treats, always read the labels carefully to ensure they are gluten-free. Universal Studios offers a wide selection of gluten-free snacks, but it's essential to double-check.

    Pack your own snacks

To avoid any potential challenges, consider bringing your own gluten-free snacks. This way, you'll always have a safe and familiar option on hand. I always carry a backpack with some snacks inside like beef jerky, gluten free bars, and pretzels.

    Bringing your own gluten-free treats

If you're concerned about the availability of gluten-free treats at Universal Studios, you can bring your own snacks. The park allows outside food and beverages as long as they comply with their guidelines. This means you can bring along your favorite gluten-free goodies to enjoy throughout the day. Just be sure to pack them in a way that is easy to carry and won't spoil in the Florida heat. Lines are long so having a backpack was nice. We kept water bottles in there that we refilled with ice and water throughout the day as well as some snacks for everyone. There are plenty of grocery stores and health food stores in the area that carry gluten free food and food for other dietary restrictions.

    Just keep traveling!

Don't let your dietary restrictions hold you back! I've traveled in the United States and outside of it and found it to be easy to eat gluten free. Madrid, Spain was one of my favorite places to travel and eat gluten free! If you're going to be hitting Sea World while you're in California, I wrote about being gluten free at Sea World. I've even found gluten free options in tiny towns like Kanab, Utah and Moab, Utah. Mexico is also a favorite to travel to. A lot of their foods are already naturally gluten free! The point is, travel! Enjoy yourself! And don't forget to let me know in the comments places that you've traveled to that you'd go back to again that offer great gluten free options!
