To make Italian brownies, you will need to use gluten-free flour in place of regular flour. There are many different types of gluten-free flours available, but for this recipe, we recommend using almond flour or a gluten-free flour blend that is specifically designed for baking. These flours will give the brownies a dense and fudgy texture that is perfect for this recipe.
You will also need:
- Dark chocolate
- Butter
- Eggs
- Sugar
- Flour
You can also add some powdered sugar for dusting the cake.
Making Your Brownies
To start, preheat your oven to 350°F and line a pie pan with parchment paper. Next, in a small mixing bowl, pour your gluten free flour into it.
In a separate mixing bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together in the microwave or over a double boiler. Stir until the mixture is smooth and set it aside to cool for a few minutes.
Once the chocolate mixture has cooled slightly, add your granulated sugar and eggs to the mixing bowl. Whisk the mixture together until it is well combined.
Next, add the dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture and stir until everything is well combined.
Baking Instructions
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth it out with a spatula. Bake the brownies in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing them and transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serving Your Italian Brownies
Once the brownies have cooled, you can cut them into slices and serve them with a dusting of powdered sugar, a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream. These brownies are rich, chocolatey, and delicious, and they are perfect for anyone who loves a good gluten-free dessert.
Can I Make These Dairy Free?
In addition to being gluten-free, these Italian brownies can also be made dairy-free, making them a great option for anyone who is lactose intolerant or vegan. To make these brownies vegan, simply use vegan butter and replace the eggs with a flax egg or another vegan egg substitute. For a dairy free version you can use dairy free dark chocolate.
What is La Torta Tenerina?
In Italy and other European countries, these brownies are also known as la torta tenerina (the tender cake). Some recipes use hazelnuts in the batter.
