Apple Pumpkin Dog Treats

December 20, 2013 by burntapple Leave a Comment

Christmas is around the corner and our greatest companions don’t want us to forget them! Homemade dog treats are the perfect gift for your best friend. These apple pumpkin dog treats will be a favorite of your family’s most loved canines and you can feel fine letting them steal a few extra. The ingredients are all natural.

This year we give tribute to our two favorite companions–one we lost this past year and another that is constantly there to keep me in shape. And if I come to bed late decides that she gets my side of the bed. And hates the cold unless she’s running after birds in it. And has an alarm clock that wakes me up at 5:00am every morning. Even when it’s 8 degrees outside.

So let’s celebrate by giving them some apple pumpkin dog treats and the chance to tear apart all the wrapping paper this holiday season.

Ingredients

  • 1 apple, grated
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the grated apple and cinnamon. Once combined, stir in the eggs and pumpkin.
  3. Stir in the flour and cornmeal stirring until the mixture becomes coarse and crumbly. Add the water and knead the dough into a ball.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out your dough to 1/4 inch. Use small cookie cutters to cut the biscuit cookies then place on baking sheet leaving a small amount of space in between.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Turn off oven and leave biscuits in the oven for another 20-30 minutes until biscuits become crisp.
  6. Store the biscuits in an airtight container.
