Why Air Fryer Biscuits?
Air fryers make it easier to prepare a variety of dishes with less effort and time. Air fryers cook food faster, are energy efficient, and give a nice even texture to food. Biscuits are one of the easiest breads to cook in the air fryer and achieve perfect crispy outer edges and soft inside.

- Vegan: Substitute plant based butter and milk.
- Dairy free: Substitute dairy free butter and milk.
- Keto: In place of the self rising flour, use keto self rising flour.
Tips for Making Air Fryer Biscuits
- Use frozen butter. It works much better when grating your butter!
- Make sure your ingredients are cold: Using cold butter and heavy cream helps create flaky layers in the biscuits. Ensure these ingredients are well chilled before mixing.
- Overworking the dough: Be careful not to overwork your dough. It can lead to tough biscuits. Mix until the ingredients are just combined and knead lightly.
Equipment
We use a Ninja Foodi for our air fryer. It is a little pricier. But we've actually been through several air fryers over the years and because of our family size and the amount we use our air fryer we just keep getting a bigger and bigger one. I should have just gotten this one in the first place. My college aged children have also made these air fryer biscuits with their smaller air fryers.
I also HATE cleaning our air fryer so when I bought this air fryer I decided I was going to use air fryer liners instead. I love them!
Storing
Store leftover biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in the air fryer before serving.
Variations
- Cheesy biscuits: Add ½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese to the dough for a cheesy twist. You can also sprinkle some cheese on top before air frying.
- Sweet biscuits: Mix in 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the dough for sweet biscuits. Optionally, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar before cooking.
- Herb biscuits: Incorporate 1-2 tablespoons of fresh chopped herbs like rosemary or thyme into the dough.
FAQ
Yes, but you will need to add 1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder and ¼ teaspoon of salt per cup of all-purpose flour to create a self-rising flour equivalent.
If you don’t have an air fryer, you can bake these biscuits in a conventional oven. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
If your biscuits are not rising, it could be due to: Expired Ingredients: Ensure your self-rising flour is fresh. Overmixing: Overworking the dough can make the biscuits dense. Improper Temperature: Make sure your air fryer is preheated to the correct temperature.
3 Ingredient Air Fryer Biscuits
Equipment
- air fryer
- air fryer liners optional
Ingredients
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ¾ cup milk or cream
Instructions
- Prep your air fryer: Lightly coat the basket with cooking spray (canola oil is best, not olive oil) or brush with melted butter. Alternatively, line the basket with air fryer liners for easy cleanup.
- Make the dough: In a medium bowl, combine flour and frozen grated butter. Use a pastry cutter or fork to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse meal with pea-sized butter pieces.
- Form the dough: Slowly add milk, one tablespoon at a time, and mix with a fork until a shaggy dough forms. Stop adding milk once the dough comes together and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Don't overmix!
- Shape and bake: Scoop a heaping tablespoon of dough and gently form it into a ball. Place the dough ball in the prepared air fryer basket, leaving space between each biscuit for them to rise. Repeat with the remaining dough, making about 5-6 biscuits depending on their size.
- Air fry: Set your air fryer to 325°F (162°C) and bake the biscuits for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown. Start checking for doneness at the 10-minute mark.
- Serve and enjoy! Carefully remove the basket from the air fryer and let the biscuits cool slightly before transferring them to a plate. Serve warm with your favorite toppings like butter, jam, or gravy.
