College Style Garlic Bread and Spaghetti

    August 6, 2018 by burntapple 2 Comments

This bread has been popular since I was in college. No fancy bread is needed. This college style garlic bread and spaghetti tastes amazing and is inexpensive to make!

    spaghetti and garlic bread

I'd have to say if I got the chance to go back to one part of my life it would definetely be my college years. College was a lot of fun and I learned a lot during those years. They weren't always easy but they were a lot of fun.

Fast forward many, many years and now I'm the one about ready to send off a college student in a few years. And I'm not doing well with it.

    garlic bread

I may spontaneously break out into tears whenever an IKEA or Target dorm room commercial comes on TV.

And once or twice I may have thrown my shoe at the TV and yelled "leave the family picture up!!" during a recent Command Strip commercial where the student takes down her parents picture and puts up a poster of a favorite band in it's place.

Oh no. When MY child goes to school it's going to be a full sized wall poster of her family she's hanging up. It will span the whole wall.

I'll also send her with some good recipes too. And this is one of them. This garlic bread uses some fresh garlic salt which is amazing! A coworker made it. She roasts garlic cloves and then crushes the garlic and mixes it with salt. It has become the kids favorite on top of their garlic bread.

The bread itself is just regular sandwich bread. i've used gluten free multigrain bread for the photos. My grandma used to call it "poor man's bread." I'm not sure why or where the term originated but it's the name that has stuck through the years. Except the kids call it "poor man's garlic bread." I think they term it that in terms of my laziness for not wanting to run out to the store when I forget the nice loaf of french bread so I just pull out a loaf of bread and slap it on a cookie sheet and sprinkle garlic and cheese on it.

This garlic bread not only works for a side with spaghetti but also works for a main dish lunch. I love making cheese bread for lunch. It's the perfect side to a salad or often I'll just eat a couple of pieces.

This looks tasty but might I suggest that you swap cage-free organic for pastured organic. From what I know, it seems like a kinder option!
