Grilled Doughnuts with Vanilla Ice Cream and Caramel Sauce

It only comes once a year. An entire week of nothing but goodies, sweets and celebrations. A birthday for the littlest one of our family. A celebration to celebrate Dad’s, followed a day or two behind with my husband’s birthday. A couple days later? A happy birthday to me.

It’s an entire week of making treats that can only be eaten once per year. Each person for their birthday gets to pick their meal and treat. I don’t interfere (much) with the healthiness of the recipe. It’s their day.

Tonight’s dessert came when a recipe for grilled doughnuts caught my eye. Don’t get me wrong. Grilled doughnuts are good but wouldn’t they be better with some ice cream? And doughnuts with ice cream….need something. So I topped it off with some salted caramel sauce.

Now my doughnut recipe creation was complete.

Grilled Doughnuts with Vanilla Ice Cream and Caramel Sauce

Rating: 51

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 3 minutes

Yield: 4 servings

Serving Size: 1 doughnut

Experience heaven with a grilled doughnut toasted to perfection then topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of salted caramel sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 vanilla glazed doughnuts (we recommend Krispy Kreme--if you're going to kill your calorie and fat content for the day, do it right).
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Caramel or salted caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Set your grill to low medium heat.
  2. Slice each doughnut in half lengthwise.
  3. Place each doughnut on the grill, grilling until doughnut becomes golden crisp and lightly browned grill side.
  4. Remove doughnut from grill, immediately placing the doughnut on a plate and top with a scoop of ice cream. Drizzle 1-2 tablespoons of caramel or salted caramel sauce on top.
  5. Experience heaven.

Can’t wait to try! Do you grill the sugar side down or the cut side? Another option would be to use salted caramel ice cream! Thanks 😉

I LOVE the idea of salted caramel ice cream! I grill mine cut side down, just long enough to get a few grill marks on it and heat the doughnut. You can also butter the cut side if you like before placing it on the grill, but I didn’t find it necessary. Enjoy!!
