A dessert skewer is a fun and easy way to present a variety of sweet treats. They are perfect for parties, barbecues, or any casual get-together. The best part? They require minimal ingredients and effort, making them an ideal choice for those looking to whip up a quick and easy dessert.
What are Dessert Skewers?
I made these dessert skewers for Memorial Day. I think I'll make them again for the 4th of July. They came out so pretty and were perfect when paired with some ranch grilled chicken and a side of watermelon goat cheese salad.

Equipment
You will definetely need some skewer sticks. I usually grab mine from the Asian store when I go but you can also find them online or in grocery stores as well. You can use bamboo, metal, or plastic skewers for dessert skewers. Bamboo skewers are popular because they are disposable and eco-friendly. Metal skewers are reusable and can add a touch of elegance.
Skewer SticksStorage
This recipe is best served fresh. But these skewers can often be assembled a few hours in advance and kept in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
FAQ
Fruits like apples, bananas, and pears tend to brown when exposed to air. To prevent this, you can: Dip the fruit slices in lemon or lime juice. Use a mixture of water and citric acid (about 1 teaspoon of citric acid per cup of water).
Prepare and assemble the skewers just before serving to minimize exposure to air.
To keep dessert skewers from getting soggy: Avoid using overly ripe or juicy fruits.
Pat fruits dry with a paper towel before assembling. If using ingredients like marshmallows or cake, ensure they are added just before serving.
You can melt chocolate using a microwave or a double boiler:
Microwave: Place chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until smooth.
Double Boiler: Place a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water. Add the chocolate to the bowl and stir until melted and smooth.
Yes, you can create savory dessert skewers by using ingredients like:
Fresh fruits paired with cheese (e.g., strawberries and mozzarella, grapes and cheddar). Savory elements like prosciutto or salami with figs or melon or using a balsamic reduction or honey as a drizzle to enhance the flavors.
