This savory and hearty queso dip with ground beef is perfect for any occasion. By using premade queso, it comes together quickly while still delivering big, bold flavors.

A white bowl filled with a creamy, orange queso dip with ground beef topped with crumbled feta cheese and chopped chives. The dip is surrounded by a variety of colorful tortilla chips.

Making Queso Dip with Ground Beef

While you could sub a different meat like chorizo or sausage, ground beef always seems to be perfect because it's so versatile and very neutral when serving to crowds. So you won't have to worry if it's too spicy!

We used Desert Pepper for our queso brand and served our dip along side some toasted ravioli, crackers, Chex mix, and steak bites. You can find Desert Pepper salsa and queso at Sprouts, Publix, Hannaford, Harris Teeter, Shop Rite, Walmart, Giant Eagle, Market Basket, Jewel, and Meijer.

    Ingredients

Just a few ingredients are needed to make this perfect dip recipe!

Three jars of Desert Pepper Trading Co. salsa, labeled "Cantina Medium," "Chile Con Carne," and "Salsa." The jars are arranged around a small bowl of queso dip and a scattering of tortilla chips on a wooden cutting board.
    • Ground beef
    • Queso dip
    • Cojita cheese
    • Green onion
    • Cilantro (optional)

    Instructions

    Brown the Ground Beef
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks, until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.

    2. Heat the Queso
In a separate saucepan, pour in the premade queso dip and heat over medium-low, stirring occasionally until smooth and warmed through.

    3. Combine the Beef and Queso
Add the browned ground beef to the warm queso dip and stir until everything is well mixed and combined.

    4. Add Garnishes
Transfer the queso dip to a serving bowl. Sprinkle the top with sliced green onions and crumbled Cotija cheese. Optionally, add a little fresh cilantro for extra flavor and a pop of color.

    5. Serve
Serve immediately with tortilla chips, vegetables, or bread for dipping.

    Substitutions

You can make some substitutions to enjoy this recipe:

    • Ground beef: You can substitute the ground beef for chorizo or sausage or even a vegan ground beef!
    • Gluten free: This recipe is naturally gluten free
    • Dairy free: You can substitute a dairy free queso dip in place of the dairy one.
    • Vegan: All you need is to substitute the queso dip for a vegan queso dip and omit or substitute the ground beef for vegan ground beef.

    Variations

You can use a different queso dip or even change out the ground beef for chorizo or sausage.

    Storage

Store the dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat on the stove over low heat, stirring occasionally. You may need to add a splash of milk to achieve the desired consistency.

    FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions you might have while making this queso dip with ground beef:

Can I substitute the ground beef?

Yes, you can substitute ground beef with ground turkey, chorizo, sausage, chicken, or even plant-based meat for a lighter or vegetarian option.

What kind of premade queso dip should I use?

You can use any store-bought queso dip, such as queso blanco or a spicier version, depending on your preference.

What else can I serve with this dip?

Tortilla chips are the go-to, but you can also serve the dip with sliced veggies, crackers, or soft pretzels for a variety of textures.

    • A mason jar filled with a Sonic-style Dirty Dr Pepper sits on a rustic white wooden surface. The drink is dark brown, filled with ice, and has visible carbonation bubbles on top. A fresh lime wedge is perched on the rim of the jar, while two additional limes, one whole and one sliced in half, rest nearby on the table. The background features a weathered wood texture, adding to the casual, homemade aesthetic.
