What are bacon wrapped steak bites?

Often used for parties, our family loves them as a fun and different meal too. Bites of steak are wrapped in pieces of bacon to make a tender and juicy steak and crispy topped bacon. This simple dish requires only five ingredients and can be prepared in no time, making it perfect for parties, family gatherings, or a special dinner. They pair well with some twice baked potatoes or some garlic butter rolls.

    Ingredients

You only need five simple ingredients to make these bacon wrapped steak bites. You will need:

    • Steak
    • Bacon
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • Toothpicks

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly line a baking sheet with foil, then spray with a light layer of cooking spray.
    • Soak toothpicks in water for 5-10 minutes. Prepare the bacon and meat while the toothpicks are soaking.
    • Cut bacon into thirds. Cut the steak and/or chicken into one inch bite sized pieces.
    • Wrap the bacon around the chicken or steak and secure with a toothpick. Sprinkle with salt and pepper if desired.
    • Place the chicken and/or steak on the baking sheet. Cook at 400 degrees for approximately 17-23 minutes, or until meat is cooked through thouroughly. Turn broiler to high and broil for 1-2 minutes until bacon is crispy and browned.
    • Remove from oven and serve.

    Substitutions

There aren't many substitutions you can make for these for dietary needs or preferences. These are a great keto appetizer to serve. They are also already gluten free too. If you want a vegan version, you can substitute vegan steak and vegan bacon.

    Variations

if you want to change things up a bit, you can try some of these variations:

    • Glazed Steak Bites: Brush the bacon-wrapped steak bites with a mixture of maple syrup and Dijon mustard before baking for a sweet and tangy glaze.
    • Spicy Steak Bites: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the seasoning mix for a spicy kick.
    • Herbed Steak Bite: Add fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme to the seasoning for an aromatic twist.
    • Cheese-Stuffed Steak Bites: Insert a small piece of cheese, like blue cheese or cheddar, into the center of each steak cube before wrapping with bacon.

    Serving

Bacon-wrapped steak bites are a versatile appetizer that can be served in various ways:

    • As an Appetizer: Serve the steak bites with toothpicks as a finger food at parties or gatherings. Pair with dipping sauces like barbecue sauce, ranch dressing, or a creamy horseradish dip.
    • On a Skewer: Thread several bacon-wrapped steak bites onto skewers and grill them for a smoky flavor. Serve with grilled vegetables for a complete meal.
    • With a Salad: Serve the steak bites over a bed of mixed greens with a light vinaigrette for a delicious and hearty salad.
    • With Sides: Pair the steak bites with sides like roasted vegetables, garlic mashed potatoes, or a fresh coleslaw for a more substantial meal.
    • As a Tapas Dish: Include the steak bites as part of a tapas spread with other small plates like olives, cheeses, and cured meats.

    Storing

I really prefer to serve these bacon wrapped steak bites fresh, but you can store them up to 2 days in the fridge. Reheat when ready to serve.

    FAQ

Can I use a different cut of steak?

Yes, you can use other tender cuts like tenderloin, New York strip, or even sirloin. The key is to choose a cut that cooks quickly and remains tender. We have even substituted and used chicken too.

Can I prepare the steak bites ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the steak bites ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator. Cook them just before serving for the best texture and flavor.

How do I prevent the bacon from falling off the steak bites?

Use toothpicks to secure the bacon around the steak cubes. You can also partially cook the bacon before wrapping it around the steak to ensure it stays in place.

Can I use turkey bacon instead of regular bacon?

Yes, turkey bacon can be used as a healthier alternative. Keep in mind that turkey bacon may not crisp up as much as pork bacon, so adjust cooking times accordingly.

Can I grill the steak bites?

Yes, grilling the steak bites adds a delicious smoky flavor. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and cook the steak bites, turning occasionally, until the bacon is crispy and the steak is done.
