    Making Halloween Truffles

This is an easy and simple recipe that only requires a few ingredients. For ease, you can use a cake mix and a cake pop mold. The mold cuts down on time and helps you get these cake truffles ready to eat in about thirty minutes! These look so pretty with our Halloween snack board. They would also look well paired as part of a party with our Halloween dog display.

    Ingredients Needed:

For making these chocolate truffles you will need:

    • chocolate cake mix
    • eggs
    • oil
    • milk
    • melting chocolates
    • sprinkles and other food decorations for decorating (optional)

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray cake pop molds with cooking spray.
    • In a bowl, stir together the cake mix, eggs, oil and milk until smooth. Spoon mixture into the bottom cake pop molds. Place the top cake pop mold on top and seal.
    • Bake for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees or until cake lightly springs back when pressed with a finger. Remove from oven and allow to cool for several minutes in the cake pop mold before removing the cake from mold. For faster cooling time and for ease of dipping, once cake is removed you can place cake in the freezer for several minutes.
    • once cake pops have cooled, melt the chocolate according to package directions. With a fork inserted into the cake pop, dip the cake into the chocolate, covering completely. Allow excess to drip off, then place cake pops to set on a sheet of wax paper. Decorate with sprinkles.
    • Serve when chocolate has set.

    Substitutions

Everyone can enjoy some Halloween truffles! Here are some simple substitutions you can make:

    • Gluten free: Use a gluten free chocolate cake mix.
    • Dairy free: Substitute dairy free milk and dairy free melting chocolate.
    • Vegan: You will want to use egg replacer in place of the eggs. You will also want to use a vegan melting chocolate.

    Equipment

Here is some equipment you will need for making your cake pops:

    • Cake Pop Mold: We use this cake pop mold. But we've also made everything from pancake bites to donuts with it.
    • Melting Chocolate: We used black melting chocolate to make these extra eerie looking!
    • Halloween Candy: Grab some sprinkles and other spooky decor to decorate your truffles!

    Melting Chocolate Tips and Tricks

Because this recipe is using a cake pop mold, the cake will be a little harder to dip into the melted chocolate. Here are some tips we've found to making these cake truffles super easy!

    • Once you've cooked the cake in the cake molds, remove them once they've had a few minutes out of the oven. Then freeze the cake and dip them in the chocolate while cold.
    • Use a fork to dip your cake into the chocolate.
    • Since these cake pops are a little bit harder to dip into the melting chocolate since you are using a cake pop mold, you can thin the melting chocolate a little bit using the instructions on the back of the melting chocolate package for thinning.
    •  For faster setting time, place decorated truffles in the refrigerator or freezer.

    Storing

Store the truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They can last up to a week.
