Haagen Daz vanilla ice cream is a high end ice cream brand known for its high-quality ingredients and creamy texture. Their vanilla ice cream is one of their most popular flavors, and it's easy to see why. It's made with simple ingredients, but it's full of rich, vanilla flavor.

A bowl of Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream sits on a wooden table. The ice cream is a light golden color with a smooth and creamy texture.

This recipe needs only five ingredients to get started. And you can substitute dairy free milk and dairy free heavy whipping cream and it still will come out delicious!

So gather your ingredients and let's get started showing you how to make Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream at home. It's a simple process, but it does require an ice cream maker. If you don't have an ice cream maker, you can still make this recipe so don't worry!

    Ingredients

Every time I go to the store, the kids always ask for Haagen Daz vanilla ice cream. It is expensive when everyone wants their own pint! Making our own copycat version is the best most cost effective way to save money but still enjoy the flavor of one of the best tasting ice creams out there!

The ingredient list is simple for this perfect copycat ice cream recipe! All you need is:

    • Heavy cream
    • Milk
    • Sugar
    • Egg yolks
    • Vanilla extract

That's it! Now let's get started on the process!

A bowl of delicious haagen daz vanilla ice cream with a scoop on a table.

Making Haagen Daz Vanilla Ice Cream

It's time to get started on making ice cream! I am so excited for you and can't wait to hear how your ice cream turns out!

    Prepare the Ice Cream Base:

In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, cream, and sugar. Heat over medium heat until the mixture is just simmering.

In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolks until smooth. Gradually whisk in the hot milk mixture, whisking constantly until the mixture is smooth.

Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon. This will take about 5 minutes.

Pour the cooked mixture through a strainer if desired.

    Churn the Ice Cream:

Pour the ice cream mixture into the ice cream maker.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific ice cream maker. Churn the mixture until it reaches a soft-serve consistency. This usually takes around 25-45 minutes depending on your ice cream maker.

    Transfer and Freeze:

Once churned, the ice cream will be soft and fluffy. Transfer it to a lidded, airtight container.

Smooth the surface of the ice cream with a spatula to remove any air pockets.

Place a piece of parchment paper or plastic wrap directly on the surface of the ice cream to prevent ice crystals from forming.

Seal the container with the lid and place it in the freezer.

    Allow to Harden:

Let the ice cream freeze for at least 4-6 hours, or until it's firm and scoopable.

Before serving, let the ice cream sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly, making scooping easier.

    Serve and Enjoy:

Scoop the homemade Haagen-Dazs-style vanilla ice cream into bowls or cones.

You can enjoy the ice cream as is or add your favorite toppings, such as fresh berries, chocolate sauce, or chopped nuts.

I plan to try this recipe. One thing I did notice is, the amount of carbs and sugar in the nutrition info. are incorrect. Each 1/2 cup serving would contain 1 Tablespoon of sugar and one Tablespoon of sugar contains 13 grams of carbs and sugar.

I made this bit swapped out most of the sugar with honey and added toasted walnuts. One thing you forgot to mention is to chill the ice cream mixture for several hours before churning in the ice cream maker.

Thanks for reaching out! I think it depends on your ice cream maker. I don't need to chill my mixture prior to churning but I recognize that some might. Glad you enjoyed it!
