    Gather your delicious southern cuisine ingredients: chicken, smoked sausage, chicken broth, onion, and rice.

    Before you begin, make sure you have all the ingredients that you need. You'll need chicken, smoked sausage, chicken broth, onion and rice to make this delicious dish.

    Get Your Saucepan and Rice Cooker Ready!

    Place the rice in the rice cooker and prepare according to package directions.

    Meanwhile, on the stove it's time to make your tasty southern cuisine! Place your chicken in a saucepan then cover in two cups of broth. Heat on medium high heat and cook until chicken reaches 165 degrees. Remove the chicken and allow it to cool. Add the sausage, and onion and one cup broth to the pan. Heat on medium low for 10-15 minutes. Shred the chicken and add to the saucepan the last five minutes of cooking time.

    Serving

    Place the rice in a bowl and top with chicken mixture. Sprinkle with salt and pepper for additional flavor if desired.

    Storing

    Rice and chicken mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for several days. Microwave to reheat.

    It is very similar. chicken bog cooks the rice, chicken, onion, broth and sausage in a pot for about an hour. Other recipes may bake the rice chicken and sausage in the oven for over an hour. My recipe shortens the cooking time in half but uses the same five ingredients.

    • 4 cups chicken broth divided
    • 2 14 oz packages smoked (polish) sausage sliced
    • 1 whole yellow onion finely chopped
    • 3 cups uncooked rice
